Character Design | 2023
I got the chance to create a character for this Game Design Project.

This is the overall aesthetic I want my character to achieve. I'm very interested in a black, grey and white colour pallet, but I would also want to explore other colour pallets to see of id change my mind. I'm also very interested in a Tim Burton style character, as well as gothic clothing styles and hairstyles. The band The Cure is also a huge inspiration for the development of my character design. As I really like their alternative style they proudly show. With most of their colour pallets being black and white with a pop of colour somewhere.

Here are my 6 silhouettes that designed based off of the character traits I had. after looking at them all for a while, I came the the conclusion that my favorite silhouettes are 3 and 6. I like 3 because I think it's a very strong silhouette with their weapon and pose, same with 6 because I like the way the character is standing and with their prop.
Here I did 6 different colour studies for my characters costume. Here I also did colour study for my characters scythe. Here I make 6 colour studies for my scythe and characters.
Here is my final character design. Im very happy with how it turned out, and I feel that everything works perfectly.
I drew up a close up of my characters face so you can see all the little details of his face. As Well as a close up of the back of his shirt. I decided I was going to put a skellington design on the back because of how someone who gave me feedback really liked the little detail, to give the character more mystery and suspense.
I also really like the contrast of my character wearing a formal style clothing with his bloody menacing scythe because it also give the the design a pop of colour.
This is my final model!! Im super happy with how it came out as again! My character is meant to look low poly since that was the style I was trying to achieve and I really like how the low poly style looks. I'm really happy with how the model looks, I feel that it was exactly what I was going for. I did have to go back and lower the poly count in my characters hair, as it made my overall poly count over 20000. So I went through my character and lowered the count to 10000.

Personally I feel that my final outcome turned out really well. Modeling was a little difficult as I have never modeled a character from scratch before but for my first time I did very well the only thing I struggled with was 3D modeling the face and hair, I found it hard to create those natural shapes, but after a lot of tests and fails, and a lot of YouTube tutorials and help from teachers and classmates I finally create a final design i'm thrilled about. The aspects I was really happy about where the texturing, especially the face and the scythe texturing. I had the most fun with texturing as it really made my character look very close to my concept art.
